The founder of Iorns Consulting, Terry Iorns, is a chemist with 30 years
experience in industry, software development and consulting. He was a pioneer in utilizing
personal computers, LIMS and laboratory automation technology to improve laboratory
effectiveness and efficiency.
Dr. Iorns has significant experience as a consultant, executive, and laboratory
scientist. He has a broad range of experience in the pharmaceutical, chemical and other
process industries working in the areas of R&D, analytical services, clinical trial
management, quality control, automation, and scientific information systems. He has a Ph.
D. in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin and a B. A. in Chemistry from
Northwestern University.
Dr. Iorns has six years experience at Coopers & Lybrand Consulting and three years
experience with Andersen Consulting. He has consulted in areas of business process
improvement, organizational structure, systems planning, laboratory information management
system (LIMS) implementation, systems validation, GMP/GLP compliance and quality
assurance/quality control review.
Prior to becoming a consultant, Dr. Iorns was a vice president at a LIMS vendor with
responsibilities for product design, customer support and business development. Prior to
this, Dr. Iorns spent 16 years in R&D with Phillips Petroleum Company, providing
analytical support in diverse areas including biotechnology, chemicals process
development, petroleum and geothermal exploration, and refining.
Dr. Iorns has over 40 publications and presentations.
If a consulting engagement requires additional staff, Iorns Consulting will assemble a
team possessing desired skills from other consulting firms, large and small.
